Hosting a Surprise Birthday Party

Surprise parties can be the most memorable. They make a person feel loved and appreciated. Almost everyone likes to be surprised, so if you want to do something really special for someone on their next birthday consider a surprise party. Use the following tips to ensure a fantastic surprise party:

Enlist some help! Surprise parties require you to get help from other people. You have to have someone get contact information for the invitees. You need to make sure the guests keep the secret for the event to be a success. Somebody will need to get the guest of honor to the party without giving anything away. So, do not try to throw the party by yourself. Get help from your friends.

Secret invitations. You need to be really sneaky when you are sending the invitations. One of the worst things you could do would be to accidentally invite the person being surprised! Or send out invites, have people RSVP, and they hear a message on your answering machine. Try to be as sneaky as you can. Email is a great way to send out invites to a surprise party. Messaging systems on social networking sites will work as well. Should you choose to send a written invite make sure it is clear it is a surprise party and not to tell. Ask your guest to respond to the invitation privately.

Decorations. All parties need decorations. It will clue your guests in to what you are doing as well as make the atmosphere more festive. When you surprise somebody you often have to give them misinformation about why they are at a specific location. So, having balloons and streamers or a banner will clue them in to the fact that it is a birthday party and get them excited to join in.

Activities and food. Don’t get so caught up in making it a surprise that you forget to plan for the rest of the night. Don’t forget to plan things to do for the rest of the party after the initial surprise, so you don’t waste all that careful planning on a bummer of a party.

Timing. A key ingredient for a surprise party is to have the guests arrive before the birthday boy or girl. Guests should arrive about half an hour before you intend the birthday person to show up. In addition, make sure they do not park out front, leave balloons, or anything else that will give it away before the person walks through the door. You’ll need an inside man that can let you know when they are near so everyone can hide for the surprise jump out. If the guest of honor is early there may not be anybody there to surprise them, so this piece is critical.
