DIY Wedding Favors. Unique Handmade Wedding Favors
Although there are many sites online where you can buy special wedding favors, and many of them are listed on this page, Ebay has become such a great source for ideas and products that it is sensible to check there. Here are the wedding favors that are currently available on Ebay. You can hover over any image to see the details or you can SEARCH in the box at the bottom of the window to find something specific:
WEDDING FAVORS YOU CAN DO YOURSELF
Given the recessionary times that we are going through, a wedding may seem like a great burden for many. But hey, whoever said you couldn’t have a wonderful wedding on a modest budget? In fact, a friend was recently wondering why we didn’t go back to the custom of distributing bonbonnieres, common among early European aristocrats. A bonbonniere, as you probably know, is a small box made of crystal, porcelain, or precious stones. The boxes generally contained sugar cubes, which stood for wealth and royalty because sugar was an expensive commodity. But as the price of sugar fell, bonbonnieres became more accessible to the masses. Well, this article is about these and other wedding favors, and how to find them.
First things first
You need to have a very clear idea of exactly how many wedding favors you will give out, and what you will use to put them in, i.e., whether you’ll need a bag, or a sachet, pail, or a box as the container. Then, sit down and think what you and your spouse enjoy doing most, or what characterizes you as a couple. For instance if you like gardening, your wedding favor could be a single large flower, done up with multicolored ribbons. Third, think if your wedding will coincide with any particular festive season or day. Fourth, consider if your reception will have a theme, and what kind it will be, i.e., formal, casual, etc.
Choose wisely
Since we are looking at do it yourself wedding favors here, it goes without saying that you will need to keep things inexpensive, and yet make smart choices. One of the best DIY wedding favors I’ve ever received was a personalized CD, containing the favorite songs of the newlyweds. If you wish to make it simpler, just fill candy tins with traditional Jordan almonds or other kinds of candy and tie multicolored ribbons around them. For the personal touch, you could add a post-it or sticker with your wedding date and your names. The thing about candy and such stuff is that you inevitably get a discount when you buy in bulk.
Innovate if you can
I remember being presented with a small tin with the bride’s favorite cookies (two pieces) that she had baked herself, along with the recipe. Among other innovative DIY wedding favors I would include bath salts, small but fancy bars of soap, flower seeds or saplings, sports memorabilia (miniature baseball bats, perhaps or part of the gear of your favorite team), or a collection of your favorite poems. For packaging, you could use scraps of material like tulle and organza, or simply colored cellophane, or marble or cheese paper.
Don’t break your bank
Most of the wedding favors discussed here are easily available either at the local convenience store or even the grocer’s. Whatever you do, you won’t spend more than a few dollars apiece, at most.
